THE CHRISTIAN GRACES : PATIENCE AND GODLINESS

In 2 Peter 1:6, Apostle Peter exhorts Christians with the following words "and to knowledge self control: and to self control patience and to patience godliness". I have already discussed self control and I enjoin you to read my post on it. What does patience mean? The word "patience" in the Greek language  is "hupomone" which means  endurance, steadfastness, patient waiting for. Apostle Peter is encouraging Christians to practice and display patience in their everyday activities. I must confess this to every reader of this post: Patience is one of the most important virtues a Christian must possess if he/she wants to lead a successful Christian life, a life that is well pleasing to Jehovah Elohim who bought us from sin and sometimes displaying patience in the face of adversity is an arduous task . Many Christians have fallen into diverse traps of the devil due to their lack of this virtue in their lives. Whatever it is we want God to do for us, we must exhibit patience while being guided by the Holy Spirit. We must always remember that God is omniscient and He knows everything. He doesn't learn anything. He knows all things and as a result He knows what's best for us and when to answer our petitions and desires. It's also important to display patience and be engaged at the same time(positive patience)than to be patient and be idle or lazy(negative endurance or patience).
Apostle Peter also commands us to add Godliness to the patience that is innate in us(all of the Christian graces is inherent in all Christians but we must practice and exhibit them) but still requires us to display it. Godliness in Greek means " a sense of awe or dread of God, reverence toward God, true spiritual relationship with God. This virtue is so important in Christian growth and development and it's so saddening that it is rapidly fading away in our modern day society and especially in the western world. A godless society always gives birth to a licentious and immoral society filled With debauchery, violence, anarchy, murders, homosexual behaviors and these will eventually lead that society into oblivion. A godless man or society is an enemy of God. As Christians we must live a life filled with godliness. We must know that Jehovah Elohim lives in us and we must honour and revere him by practicing holiness. We are citizens of heaven and we must show the unbelievers that we are truly citizens of heaven. This unbelieving and decayed world must see heavenly traits in us everyday in our words, thoughts and actions.
Finally, as we decide to be true Christians by practicing these christian graces the Holy Spirit and the host of heaven are all at our disposal to guide,  encourage, forgive and empower us to be worthy citizens of heaven sent to this dead and decaying world to give life and nourishment to it through Jesus Christ.
