Today we will be discussing an important topic which in the christian faith has received little consideration but I hope to give an in
depth explanation into this particular topic and after today I hope that you will appreciate the more the death of Jesus for our sins and also, in my next post we continue our series on sin. Please the reason that I haven't continue the series on sin is to give us a strong foundation on some of the pillars of our christian faith. Thanks for your patient. Please before we begin I would like us to pray to the Holy Spirit for understanding and direction as we begin today's discuss (please if you can speak in other tongues, speak them as you are being led by the Holy Spirit. Please pray for some few seconds or minutes). God bless you as you obey.
The title of today's discuss is "the spiritual significance of Jesus's death on a tree", so without wasting any more time lets turn our bible to the book of 1 Peter 2:24. This verse says " who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-by whose stripes you were healed". Isn't this a verse powerful? This verse is telling you and I that we have already been healed of whatever sickness or disease we are suffering from now. So it's an error for any christian to continue to suffer from any form of sickness or disease. Claim your healing now.

Proclaim your healing over that ailing part of your body now in faith and in the name of Jesus and watch your healing happen now but that is not what we are discussing in today's post. Going back to our bible text we see Apostle Peter telling us as an eyewitness that Jesus died on a tree. Now you might be thinking to yourself-"what difference does that make in my christian faith"? So today I will be revealing to you the spiritual significance of that act.
In order to better understand the spiritual significance of that act(i.e Jesus dying on a tree), I want bring to our knowledge some bit of information. Now according to Jewish history and tradition from the old testament, dying on a tree was the most humiliating way for a person to die. Anyone who died on a tree was accursed by God himself. In order to prove that lets turn our bibles again to the book of Deuteronomy 21;23, it says "His body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that you do not defile the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance;for he who is hanged is accursed of God". So from this verse you can see that dying on a tree in ancient Israel was very humiliating, in fact, the most humiliating way to die as an Israelite.
Let's also turn our bible again to the book of Deuteronomy 21:22, which says "if a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and he is put to death and you hang him on a tree". This verse telling us why someone could be hanged on a tree- the man had committed a sin deserving of death.
Keeping these points at the back of our mind, lets give the spiritual interpretation and significance of Christ's death on a tree. Now when Jesus came to earth and took mankind's sins upon Himself He automatically became deserving of death by God's law because for example since the sins of murderers were on Him He became a murderer, also the since the sins of liars, fornicators, adulterers, thieves etc were upon Him Jesus automatically replaced them and He also took the sins of this whole sinful world in general and therefore committed sins deserving of death and was crucified, and He was hanged on a tree( which is the same as a cross because cross were made from trees). Now you might be thinking that it was the Roman authorities that hanged Jesus on the cross because that was their custom in ancient times but please I want us to know that Christ's death and his hanging on the cross was spiritually in accordance with the law of the old testament and in accordance with God's predetermined plan, that was why Jesus body was not left on the cross till the next day, John 19: 31 and that was why the next day had been predetermined to be the sabbath day so that Jesus body would not stay overnight on a tree but He would be buried immediately after death to fulfill the law and God's predetermined plan. Please I hope you understand what I am saying. So in essence what I have been saying is this; Jesus Christ committed sins deserving of death( by taking our sins on Himself) and was killed for it and was buried as soon as He died.
Our bible verse tells us that anyone who was hanged on a tree according to Jewish law was accursed by God. So Jesus ( the prince of peace, the son of God, the lion of the tribe of Judah, the beginning and the end, the first and last) became at that moment as He hung on the cross, accursed because of our sins. God cursed Him. God cursed His son. No wonder Jesus shouted "father, father why have you forsaken me?" Matthew 27:46.
Therefore the spiritual significance of Christ's death on the tree is this: He was deserving of His death and was hanged and was cursed by God. Jesus died the death of an evil criminal. In ancient Israel it was only someone who had committed a very evil crime or murder that was killed and hanged on a tree, therefore that method of death was avoided by the ancient Israelites because it was the most humiliating way to die for any Israelite.
I hope you have learned something new today or a revelation has been digested by your inner man. I just want us to know that Christ went through all that humiliation because of you and I. He wanted us to be reconciled with our God. God sent Jesus to go through all that humiliation and sufferings so that we His children would have life and be free from satan's legal hold on us before we got born again and that's why I want to beg us(true believers) to preach Jesus Christ wherever we are. Shine as lights. Show God's love and walk(allow the Holy Spirit dictate your life) in the Spirit. Practice holiness and righteousness.
Jesus is coming back soon but His return will be to take His people(true believers or christians) to heaven and to judge this evil earth. God bless you for reading today's post. Please if you are not born again and want to be born again so you will become God's child and a citizen of heaven, I want you to say these words with your mouth and you must believe them in your heart: "Lord Jesus I accept you today as my Lord and saviour. I believe that you died for my sins and rose for my justification and that you are seated in heaven as the son of God. Please cleanse me from my sins and renew me now. Thank you Jesus for what you have done now. Amen." My brothers or sisters you are now God's child and a citizen of heaven.
