The prodigal son who was the younger and the elder son represents two type of people in God's house, the church. The rich man represents Jehovah God. In my post on the new covenant I gave guidelines on how to read the bible and I suggest you read it and memorise them, they are very important. The bible is not like a novel,its spiritual, that's why I suggest you read those guidelines and pray to the Holy Spirit before reading the bible. Now notice that the elder son was not the prodigal son but the younger. Most people correlate the prodigal son with unbelievers but I believe otherwise and I will give my valid reasons. With all these points in our understanding let me guide you into some of the spiritual truths of this story.

I will stop here today and in any of the subsequent posts we will be discussing the elder brother type christian and his characteristics and also the features of the younger son type of christian. I hope you have been blessed and enlightened. Please if you are a christian and you are not serious with God today's message is for you. God is calling you back to him and He will always welcome you with open arms. Pray this prayer(this is for the prodigal son type of christian): Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my nonchalant attitude to you and to the service in your church (God's kingdom on earth). Forgive me Lord and Holy Spirit rekindle the fire for service for work in my father's( God) kingdom. Amen. You have been restored. God bless you and I will be awaiting your views and comments.

Today we will be discussing the story of the prodigal son and its spiritual application to the church which is the body of Christ. I ought to discuss the series titled "sin" in which I have already begun a discuss on its beginnings from Adam to Abel and to Abraham and I ought to continue today but I am led to discuss this particular story of the prodigal son. I promise to continue the discuss on sin and its mystery in my next two posts so I am looking forward to your views and comments.
The story of the prodigal son is a popular story with various but similar interpretations from different preachers but in today's post I want to give you a precise and accurate interpretation of this beautiful story. So without wasting any more time lets turn our bibles to the book of Luke 15:11-32. Please pray to the Holy Spirit for understanding before reading.
Jesus was telling the story of a man who had two sons. Now most people think this story was a parable but I believe this story really happened. Jesus is God and has been with Jehovah Elohim(creator) since the beginning of time so Jesus might have been telling a true story. Now that you have read it lets delve into it but some of us reading this post might not be christians so I suggest you focus and pay attention. The summary of the story is this: a rich man had two sons.One day the younger son collected his share of his inheritance and went to a far country to squander his inheritance on a frivolous life style. After some time a severe famine plagued that country and this prodigal son found himself working in a pig farm and even desired to eat the pig's food because of starvation ( which was an abominable thought for a Jewish child). Coming back to his senses he went to back to his father in humility and tears who instantly forgave him and restored him as his son by declaring a feast for him against the wishes of his elder brother who felt cheated but his father made a powerful statement that stunned me. Here is what the father said to the elder son"Son, you are always with me and all that I have is yours". Please note that statement because it refers to the reward of a particular type of people in God's house.
SPIRITUAL INTERPRETATION OF THIS STORY

SPIRITUAL TRUTHS
The prodigal son represents christians who are members of God's family(church) but are not totally dedicated to God's service and commandment but are still drawn to worldly pleasures , wants and gratifications and their thoughts are preoccupied by it. Now you might be thinking otherwise(thinking the prodigal son represented sinners though it can also be used to depict a sinner's return to God) but please note what Jesus said (please read my guidelines in my post on the new covenant). Jesus said a man who was rich had two sons who were heirs of his inheritance. If we agree that the rich man represents God, then how can an unbeliever or sinner who has not accepted Jesus as his/her Lord and savior be an heir in God's kingdom?
The bible says we(christians,believers) are joint heirs with Christ so how can an unbeliever be a joint heir with Christ. I hope we understand now. Again notice that Jesus did not say the elder brother was the prodigal son but the younger son so this implies that christians who are still drawn totally to the world's pleasure are like the babies in church or the younger or immature sons. These set of christians (younger christians) find it difficult to attend church services regularly, they are always being followed up, they still behave, talk and act like sinners and unbelievers. They don't work for God or they do God's work grudgingly and with complains. Now notice what the Father told the elder son who did not leave his father's house but stuck and toiled for his father, he told him"son you are always with me and all that I have his yours". Isn't that statement self explanatory? Why didn't the father tell his younger son that even when he returned?
The younger son type of Christian has virtually little or no reward(which can lead to loss of inheritance if such Christian completely backslides from God to the world) in God's house because he\she has offered little or no service to God and to his kingdom or he\she does God's work (the father) with complains and grudgingly. He \she does not serve God whole heartedly in love but is always fixated on the world's pleasures. Some of these type of Christians will eventually go back to the world to enjoy its pleasures but will later regret it if they ever come back to their senses and remember the love and riches of their father(God). Remember the bible says everyone will be rewarded according to his works so even if the younger son or prodigal type of Christian will make heaven after repentance but he/she has no great reward in heaven for his/her services in God's kingdom (remember the parable of the talents).
